Mission
Improve the understanding of The Island Of The Bahamas and our culture through a unique and enriching Bahamian experience between visitors and friendly Bahamian hosts.
Vision
To foster a positive cultural exchange between visitors and local Bahamians. Together, participants will become tourism ambassadors for The Islands Of The Bahamas.
Program Objectives
1. Provide visitors with a one-on-one cultural exchange with a Bahamian volunteer.
2. Improve individual understanding of our country and culture.
3. Create genuine international friendships.
Hosts
Our friendly volunteers come from a cross section of our communities. Small businesses. Organizations. Even churches. They have each been carefully screened and are not employed by The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, nor are they subsidized in any way.
Join our People-to-People program.
Tea Party
You’re invited to attend a Tea Party at the Government House in Nassau, hosted by the spouse of the Governor General. Try some delightful local bush teas and pastries. Tea parties are also offered on Grand Bahama Island, The Exumas and The Abacos. Tea parties are available from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the last Friday of each month, January through November.
Spouse's Program
While your spouse is attending a conference or working, explore The Islands Of The Bahamas with a friendly Bahamian volunteer. See our way of life. Share stories. Try our savory cuisine.
Student Home-Away-From-Home
When you’re here by yourself, you’re never really alone. Volunteers act as host parents to foreign students attending Bahamian colleges. Students don’t live with host parents, but meet occasionally.
E-pal Program
Get a taste for the islands before you know what a conch fritter looks like. With our E-pal program, you can make a friend here before you even leave home.
