The Park honors Bimini's veterans of World Wars I & II, numerous leaders of the community and sports figures. It features plaques inscribed with names of the deceased, including a portion dedicated to victims of the Chalks Flight 101 crash in December 2005.

Legend has it that the name ,Cat Cay'came from pirates who thought the island was shaped like the cat line of a sailing vessel. Cat Cay is a coral strand with gleaming white beaches, washed by the silver crested sapphire waves of the Atlantic Ocean.
