Dunmore House was built by Lord Dunmore between 1787 and 1788. It was rented as a residence for Governors until the present Government House was completed in 1804. In 1829 Dunmore House was purchased by the War Department and converted into Officers Quarters and Mess Hall.
The Queen's Staircase, commonly referred to as the 66 steps, was hewn out of solid limestone rock by slaves between 1793 and 1794. It provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau.

The Water Tower behind Fort Fincastle was erected in 1928 to maintain water pressure on the island. It is 126ft tall and provides a marvellous panoramic view of Nassau. You can walk up the narrow, winding staircase. There are 216 steps.
