Just south of Surfer's Beach is Hatchet Bay Cave. The cave is one mile long and filled with stalagmites and stalactites, which take on the appearance of underground cathedrals in torch light. Centuries-old graffiti of charcoal signatures line the walls.
Along the roadside between Alice Town and Gregory Town, there are a number of silos. These silos were once use for storing cow food and was owned by the Hatchet Bay Plantation. The silos stand out against the sky and are no doubt a good demarcation for airplane pilots.
The locals tell the story of a beautiful young newlywed couple moving into this lovely home shortly after their glorious wedding. Some describe it as a fairly tale affair. However, shortly thereafter the couple had a terrible argument.
This historical landmark was built by Governor William Frederick Haynes Smith in 1897 and is the oldest Government Complex on the island. The upstairs has always housed a Library and the downstairs held offices, including the former official residence of the local doctor.
