This monument which commemorates the Olympic games is located at Long Bay. The flame, brought from Greece by ship, was placed in the monument before it was taken to Mexico City to open the games there in 1968. The beach at this monument is especially beautiful for swimming and scuba diving.

On August 2, 1991, the Director-General of UNESCO, in the presence of the Prime Minister of The Commonwealth of The Bahamas, declared San Salvador a Monument of the Quincentennial, acknowledging it as the geographical starting point of the new American epoch commencing October 12, 1492.
Watling's Castle, the ruins of a late 18th century Loyalist plantation house, was named after George Watling, a buccaneer who frequented the place.
