Overview

Preacher's Cave is a large unique cave about two miles east of Gene's Bay. It is where the shipwrecked Eleutheran Adventurers took refuge after landing here and held the island's first religious services. They shaped an altar from a large boulder at the far end of the cave, giving it its name, which remarkably still stands. Preacher's cave was the first worship site on Eleuthera. It was discovered by William Sail and The Eleutheran Adventures, a group of Chirstians seeking relgious freedom from Bermuda, that were shipped wrecked off Eleuthera on Devils Back Bone. They found refuge in the cave and conducted the first church sermon there. The site is used by visitors and locals for picnics and other social outings because of the lovely white sandy beach nearby.
