In the Port Howe area of Cat Island, you can see the ruins of the Deveaux House mansion, part of a former 18th-century plantation. In its glory days, it was home to Colonel Andrew Deveaux, who was given the land in 1783 for protecting Nassau from the Spanish invasion and occupation.
