Named after the infamous captain Kidd, a U. S. Navy officer who frequented the island during the age of piracy. Captain Kidd had turned to piracy and legend has it that this was his favourite anchorage. However, Captain Kidd was captured, tried and his body was tarred and left hanging in a cage on the Thames River in London for several years. This was done to discourage others from considering piracy. There are numerous stories of Captain Kidd hiding treasures on secluded islands from New York down to Puerto Rico. Maybe one day, some of his treasures will be found at Elizabeth Harbour.
