Overview

Sidney Pratt Glassblower If you visit Grand Bahama Island, and are in search of a unique gift or souvenir, many people will point you in the direction of the International Bazaar to visit Sidney Pratt, at the Glassblower Shop. Pratt, a native of Nassau, Bahamas, spent his formative years in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. He was always artistically inclined, so following high school, he went on to study Commercial Art. It was during his studies that he first had the opportunity to learn this glass forming technique. Following his studies, Pratt commenced working as an artist in various media. However, it was during this period that he began working as an apprentice to a local artisan, and firmed up his training in glass blowing techniques. Pratt quickly realized that he had found his calling, and he has been plying his trade for the past 23 years. Today, Pratt works primarily with Pyrex glass at his cozy shop in the International Bazaar. While his more traditional souvenir items, such as conch shells, stylized names or Junkanoo figures continue to sell consistently, oftentimes it is the bespoke creations which are much in demand time and again. These sought after gifts range from swizzle sticks for Diana, Princess of Wales, to more ,intimate' objects for groups of women on the island for a hen weekend! So the next time you're on Grand Bahama Island, give the traditional T-shirt and mug a miss, and visit The Glassblower Shop. If what you want is not there, I'm confident that Pratt can conceive a design fit for a king or at the very least, a princess! Pratt is the father of 2 daughters, and an avid tennis player in his leisure time.
