The History of Andros

The first recorded discovery of Andros was in 1550 while the Spanish were searching for slave labor. By 1787, 1,400 inhabitants of St. Andreas Island had found new homes on Andros. Although no one knows for sure, the name Andros is believed to be in honor of Sir Edmund Andros, Commander of His Majesty’s Forces.
