In 1831, Sir James Carmichael Smythe (Governor of The Bahamas) created villages where Africans, upon disembarking from these slave ships - were sent to start new lives.  One of these villages was named after the Dowager Queen of William IV; and the development  of Adelaide Village began.

The small community of Adelaide with its narrow streets, sits placidly on the Southwestern coast of New Providence as a remnant of another era, which has maintained its individuality and uniqueness.

The Village is a lovely, secluded spot for fishing and swimming, and despite the fact that the signature of progress is highly pronounced - timelessness and peace still cover the land.
