Bahamian cuisine, particularly fresh seafood, dominates menus in the restaurants of Eleuthera, Harbour Island and Spanish Wells, followed by American cuisine and Continental. Most of the fine-dining options are at hotels and resorts on Harbour Island—on the Eleuthera mainland, at The Cove. Each township has at least one casual-dining restaurant, and there are a number of takeaways offering Bahamian dishes. You can also sample all of the local favorites at roadside cookouts held in many of the towns on Saturdays and national holidays. Stop at the weekly Fish Fry in Governor’s Harbour year-round, during winter months in Rock Sound and in other communities at various times throughout the year. Annual food-related festivals honor the local farmers and fishermen. Culinary tours give you a taste of homegrown favorites: Bahamian lobster, sweet and succulent pineapples and locally-made food products.
