As would be expected, fresh seafood is the main feature here, including grilled and steamed fish (often grouper), cracked conch and other conch dishes, and lobster in season. Local specialties are fresh free-range mutton, turtle soup, conch and rice, peas and rice, and baked macaroni and cheese. You can find traditional Bahamian dishes at Ponderosa Bar & Restaurant, Sheila's Fisherman's Lounge Restaurant & Bar, and Silver Tails Fishing Lodge Restaurant & Bar. You can also get veggie burgers, fresh-baked bread, pastries, and desserts at Locos Pastries & Deli. The restaurants are not open regularly, except on mail-boat day and national holidays. However, you can always get a meal from places like Sheila’s with prior notice and People-to-People volunteers who have personal relationships with regular boaters will often invite them to eat with their families when they’re in the area.
