The members-only Nassau Yacht Club was founded on September 9, 1931, with a mandate to promote yacht building and yacht racing, and particularly junior sailing. It is the home of sailing stalwarts Sir Durwood Knowles and Sloan Farrington — 1946 Silver Medalist World Championship, Havana and 1956 Bronze Medalist at the Olympics, Melbourne, Australia. Sir Durwood Knowles and Cecil Cooke were also Gold Medalists at the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
