Inside the Deveaux Great House

This former 18th-century cotton plantation had an antebellum-style mansion that must have been quite spectacular In its glory days. Ruins on the site include the stone structures of that great house and outbuildings; you can see the heavy wooden beams that supported the roofs, etc. and some of the original decorative trim.

Colonel Andrew Deveaux, a Loyalist and veteran of the American Revolutionary War, called this place home. He was given the land in 1783 for helping to protect and recapture Nassau, The Bahamas' capital, from the Spanish invasion and occupation.
