Family Fun On San Salvador
Family Fun On San Salvador
Fun and educational experiences include visits to the Bahamian Field Station on the site of an old U.S. Navy base; Watling's Castle, an old plantation site; the beach where Christopher Columbus first made landfall in the New World; the New World Museum, exhibiting the island's history; and Dixon Hill Lighthouse, one of only three remaining hand-wound lighthouses in The Bahamas. Add horseback riding along one of the beaches and top off your day with a Bahamian dinner. There are numerous interesting things to see in the waters around San Salvador, and local guides can help you discover them all. Cruise along Pigeon Creek and get an up-close view of the island's cultural past, explore seaside caves for historical remnants left by past inhabitants, snorkel above shallow reefs and view colorful sea life, or stop at Green Cay and Low Cay to visit endangered iguanas.
