Long Island Regatta

May 31, 2012 - June 02, 2012

Long Island RegattaThis sailing regatta is the second largest in The Bahamas, next to the National Family Island Regatta held in Exuma, and it is the major fund-raiser on the island. Skippers from throughout The Bahamas compete for cash prizes and trophies in A, B and C class races. Some of the sailing sloops that take part in the regatta are built right on the island in the settlement of Mangrove Bush.

The event is well attended by both Bahamians and international visitors, It is a time of celebration and family reunions for many Long Islanders, who return home to visit relatives, friends and enjoy the races. There is lots to eat and drink, including tasty native mutton dishes, plus a kids' corner, games for the entire family, and performances by local bands. It takes place during the Labor Day holiday weekend, at the Regatta Site in Salt Pond.
