Sports On Grand Bahama Island

Sports On Grand Bahama Island

Some golfers see the Atlantic Ocean as one great water hazard; others know that championship fairways and greens are but a chip shot away. Try your luck on one of our three courses. Several biking tours take advantage of Grand Bahama Island’s favorable terrain while providing an opportunity to work out on vacation. The annual Bernie Butler Swim Race and the Conchman Triathlon are some of the key sporting events here. Tennis courts are available at some resorts for the use of guests and there are also public facilities. Beach volleyball courts are at Club Caribe, Margarita Villa Sand Bar, Lucayan Beach, Paradise Cove, Pirates of the Bahamas, and at Tony Macaroni's on Taino Beach, where there's usually a game on Saturday afternoons.

Running & Cycling

The island’s relatively flat terrain makes it easy to jog or bike virtually anywhere. Midshipman Road in Lucaya has a designated bike lane. The Grand Bahama Sport Complex features a championship-grade running track and is the center of Track and Field competitions. Take on the challenge of the annual Conchman Triathlon, held the first Saturday in November, featuring a 5K run and 25K ride. Competitors participate from around the world.

Our three golf courses include two championship courses with challenging greens. Grand Lucayan Resort’s 18-hole Reef Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The 18-hole Ruby Golf Course was originally designed by Joe Lee, then redesigned by Jim Fazio in 2002. The 9-hole Fortune Hills Golf Course was designed by Joe Lee and Dick Wilson.
