Zion Baptist Church was opened for public worship in 1835. A British Baptist Missionary, Rev. Joseph Burton, was its first pastor. The church was destroyed by hurricane in 1929, and rebuilt by Rev. Talmadge Sands. He was the first Bahamian to head the church. Additions was made to the structure by Rev. Dr. Charles Smith. The present pastor of the church is the Rev. Dr. Terrance G. Morrison.

This church is a part of Zion United Baptist Convention that is headed by President - Bishop Samuel Green and has a total of 79 churches throughout the Commonwealth of The Bahamas.  In addition to Zion Baptist Church, there are six other missions in New Providence as follows:

Sunday services at Zion Baptist Church and most of the convention's churches are 8:00am & 11:00am
