General Overview

In its inaugural season The Bahamas Opera Festival 2014 offers a twofold operatic experience for the developing student opera singer. Its main stage production will be two performances of Giacomo Puccini’s La Bohème sung in Italian, fully staged with sets, costumes and a reduced orchestra. Principal roles will be performed by acclaimed singers with credits from a variety of international opera houses.

Throughout the three weeks will be running the Bahamas Opera Festival Workshop 2014 – a tuition-based intense workshop that will focus on all aspects of the craft of the singing actor. An anticipated enrollment of 40/50 participants will be selected through an audition process throughout the Bahamas, the United States and Canada. Workshop members will receive two weeks of intensive vocal training, musical coaching, curriculum in acting, stage movement/choreography and fitness for singers, and seminars dealing with the various aspects of the singing actor including foreign language diction, stage makeup, the career of singing, resume/bio writing, and cross-over opportunities. A unique and exciting inclusion to the BOF Workshop will be the incorporation of cultural elements within the seminars with a focus being on various Bahamian folk expressions including Junkanoo and Rake n’ Scrape as well as an exploration of operatic repertoire from the Caribbean region
