Long Island is known throughout The Bahamas as the mutton capital. Whenever a friend or family member travels to Long Island, the first thing people ask for is a leg of mutton.
The Mutton Festival encourages domestic and international visitor arrivals to Long Island. This is the time of year when food vendors serve a wide variety of mutton dishes such as mutton macaroni, mutton fritters, mutton kabobs, and mutton fried rice. There are local rake and scrape bands, live entertainment, as well as adult and children activities that take place throughout the course of the day.
