The Honourable Glenys Margaret Elaine Hanna Martin is one of The Bahamas’ most accomplished public leaders, with a distinguished career spanning law, governance, aviation, education and parliamentary service. In May 2026, she was appointed Minister of Tourism for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, becoming the first woman to lead the nation’s signature industry and one of the world’s most recognized tourism destinations. A veteran parliamentarian, attorney, and transformational national leader, Minister Hanna Martin brings decades of executive and public-sector leadership to the portfolio at a pivotal time for the continued growth, global positioning, and advancement of The Bahamas.
Minister Hanna Martin has represented the Englerston Constituency in Parliament since 2002 and is the longest-serving female parliamentarian in Bahamian history, having secured six consecutive electoral mandates. Throughout her public service career, she has earned a reputation as a principled and influential leader with a longstanding commitment to institutional strengthening, national development and the advancement of the Bahamian people.
Her ministerial leadership has spanned several portfolios of national importance. As Minister of Transport and Aviation, she became the first woman in Bahamian history to hold the position and led significant modernization efforts within the aviation sector while strengthening The Bahamas’ engagement in international transportation and maritime affairs. Her leadership contributed to advancing national connectivity, infrastructure development, and the country’s broader transportation agenda.
Prior to assuming the tourism portfolio, Minister Hanna Martin served as Minister of Education and Technical and Vocational Training, where she led major reforms focused on academic performance, school safety and technical education. She also championed landmark education legislation representing the first comprehensive review of national education policy in nearly sixty-five years and establishing education as a fundamental right under Bahamian law.
In addition to her ministerial service, Minister Hanna Martin has held several historic leadership positions within the Progressive Liberal Party. In 2008, she became the first woman elected Chairman of a major political party in The Bahamas. She has also contributed regionally and internationally through her service with the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and the Commonwealth Parliamentary Women’s Association.
Born in Nassau, The Bahamas, Minister Hanna Martin received her early education at St. Anne’s School and Queen’s College before continuing her studies in England and Canada. She later read law at the University of Buckingham, graduating with top honours and receiving the Maxwell Law Prize, the institution’s highest academic distinction in law. She is a member of the Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and is admitted to both the Bar of England and Wales and The Bahamas Bar.
As Minister of Tourism, Hanna Martin now leads a sector central to the economic strength, global reputation and continued advancement of The Bahamas, bringing to the role decades of executive, legislative and public policy leadership.
An Anglican by faith, Minister Hanna Martin is the proud mother of three children and grandmother of three.
