Global golf tourism organization’s annual ranking recognizes The Bahamas for its superior golf offerings in the region
The International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has named The Islands Of The Bahamas the Golf Destination of the Year for Latin American & the Caribbean as part of the golf tourism organization’s annual industry rankings.
The annual “Best Golf Destinations” winners are selected based on their breadth and quality of golf offerings including customer satisfaction, quality of golf courses and resorts and level of support from local tourism boards and industry partners. Members of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (BMOTA) received the award at the Golf Travel Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner on December 12 at the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) in the Palais de Congres in Cannes, France.
“We are honored to be recognized by the IAGTO as a premier destination for golf tourism in the region,” said BMOTA Director General Joy Jibrilu. “The Bahamas prides itself on offering visitors a variety of golf experiences throughout our islands, and we are excited to debut both new and enhanced golf product in the coming year.”
The Bahamas is a golfer’s paradise attracting legendary players and golf enthusiasts alike to experience its championship courses; variety of golf experiences across numerous islands; balmy, year-round temperatures; distinct Bahamian culture; and miles of stunning coastline boasting turquoise waters and pristine beaches.
Exciting new developments continue to elevate The Bahamas as a top golf destination. Tiger Wood’s TGR Design is teaming up with Jack’s Bay Developers to build a beachfront luxury resort and private club at Rock Sound, featuring a Woods-designed 10-hole golf course called “The Playgrounds,” slated to debut in 2018. Earlier this year, the resort destination, Baha Mar, opened the first of its three unique properties on Cable Beach with shared amenities including an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course. The Bahamas also hosts many elite tournaments each year such as the annual Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament, annual LPGA Silk Classic Tournament (Nassau) and Hero World Challenge hosted by Tiger Woods.
IAGTO's membership comprises more than 2,500 golf tour operators, golf resorts, hotels, golf courses, airlines, tourist boards and media in 98 countries, including 679 golf tour operators in 65 countries. IAGTO’s operators are responsible for more than 87% of golf vacation packages sold worldwide.
