Couples Reveal Their Unique Romantic Proposals

Love is certainly in the air for three lucky couples, which recently won the incredible opportunity of a lifetime, to propose to their love one, while enjoying a luxurious, romantic three nights stay in The Bahamas.  The initiative was for The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Aviation (MOTA) “Say Yes Marriage Proposal” contest.  #shesaidyes#sayyesinthebahamas.

The winners, Raul Ponce and Mary Cabrero of Houston, Texas; Heath Daigle and Dejah Vaughn of Panama City Beach, Florida and Jeff Simon and Heidi Ginter of Marlborough, Massachusetts were selected from hundreds of U.S applicants in the social media competition.

Freda Malcolm, Director of Romance, MOTA said “our surprise marriage proposals which occurred between January 18 and 30th, were executed to perfection in Nassau, the capital, Paradise Island, The Abacos and The Exumas.  No matter where, in The Islands of The Bahamas, our romantic destination boasts a myriad of experiences and awaits couples wishing to begin their new life in the most intimate settings,” she said.

James Ambler, CEO, Paparazzi Proposals captured the proposals on video and along with Freda, planned the proposals with input from each prospective groom, and incorporated authentic experiences in some of The Bahamas’ most exotic and romantic islands.

Raul who had purchased Mary’s engagement ring and had already planned on proposing during the recent Christmas holiday, even before he was selected a winner, said, he “was completely blown away with the engagement proposal, which was executed with precision and exceeded his greatest expectations”.  The engagement took place at the new and beautiful Grand Hyatt Resort at BahaMar in Nassau.

According to Raul, he had invited his fiancé to watch a beach side wedding ceremony, that was already in progress and to have an early dinner.  The couple then took a slow walk to the Resort’s fire lit pool, where a letter Raul had written to his fiancé sat on top of the table.  The entire area had been roped off, and draped in candles, rose pedals and champagne.

Mary, who at first thought that they were trespassing on another couple’s event, said she “was overcome with emotion and immediately began shaking and crying when she saw that the envelope was addressed to her.  It was then, that Raul, dropped on bended knees and asked those four powerful, loving words ‘will you marry me?’ and I said yes,” she said.

“We are still in disbelief and amazed to be gifted with such a wonderful opportunity by the Bahamas MOTA.  This magical and beautiful experience made possible by the friendly people of The Bahamas, is an unforgettable experience we will forever treasure,” said Mary.

The luxurious accommodation at the exclusive Lumina Pointe Resort in Georgetown, Exuma was the perfect spot for Floridians, Heath and Dejah.  The couple that has three children including a five month old lived previously in St. Thomas but lost their home to Hurricane Maria.  The family travelled to Puerto Rico for safety, but the island was hit by Hurricane Irma, forcing them to flea with just the clothes on their back to Florida.

Known for its crystal clear turquoise waters and home of the world’s famous swimming pigs, Exuma was the perfect romantic spot for the avid sea loving couple.

The most fitting proposal was carefully orchestrated around Exuma’s scenic sandbar.  The early evening proposal, which happened during low tide, revealed the stunning miles of white powdery sand, sitting atop the ocean bed.  The couple took a romantic stroll along its path, which had been lined with lit torches to a private dining table, which was outfitted with flowers and champagne.

“The opportunity and experience that was made available to us by “Say Yes” and The Bahamas MOTA was a once in a lifetime; life changing experience,” said Heath.    I am so grateful for the love and care that was shown in helping me give Dejah her dream proposal and an experience what we will both never forget”.

“The generosity and compassion that was shown by Freda, James and their team, was the true meaning and expression of love. Dejah and I will forever remember this experience and the amazing people that helped to make it happen.  And oh yeah “SHE SAID YES,” said Heath.

Abaco’s simple but nostalgic old world charm, warm hospitality, colonial architecture and relaxed lifestyle influenced Jeff’s proposal to Heidi.  The rustic design of the columned porch at Hope Town Harbour Lodge was ideal for the couple’s proposal.  Nestled by lush gardens, and overlooking Abaco’s harbor and historic candy stripped lighthouse, the patio deck was surrounded by candles and lanterns, which added to the romantic proposal.

“Our engagement in The Bahamas was truly the experience of a lifetime!  This was our first visit to The Bahamas and we fell in love with the incredible blue waters, the lush tropical landscape and, of course, the warm and welcoming people.  The proposal experience was exciting and wonderful in every way thanks to the amazing people at The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism and Paparazzi Proposals.  We cannot imagine a better place to begin the next stage of our life together and will be back again soon,” said Jeff.

The Islands of The Bahamas have received numerous nominations and awards from the Romance sector and was, in 2015 awarded the World’s Leading Wedding Destination.
