Couples Say, 'I Do' On Grand Bahama Island
Uptick in Interests in Destination Weddings

FREEPORT, Grand Bahama, 20 April 2022 — With the easing of Covid-19 restrictions in The Bahamas, Grand Bahama Island is beginning to see an uptick in interest in destination weddings. The increase in interest in destinations nuptials is due in part to the exposure the Islands of The Bahamas received last year, when the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism launched a Virtual Romance Expo, “From The Bahamas With Love”, which targeted consumers seeking to find inspiration for their perfect destination wedding, honeymoon or romantic getaway.
Grand Bahama Island is an ideal destination to say, “I do”. It offers a wide variety of indoor and outdoor venues to host weddings, receptions and lavish affairs. In March, Ministry of Tourism on-island representatives, witnessed Adam Speck and Megann Hubbard elope at the Garden of the Groves an outdoor venue and premier nature spot in Freeport. Newlywed Hubbard said of her destination wedding, “We always wanted to have a small ceremony with just us, so when we decided on a cruise for the honeymoon, the opportunity presented itself to get married in The Bahamas. We saw that we only needed to be in The Bahamas for 24 hours and Grand Bahama was our second stop.”
Having been attracted to The Bahamas for its sun, sand, and sea, the couple said their best experience was being able to enjoy the Garden of the Groves after their ceremony and spend time at Taino Beach before returning to their cruise ship.
According to the groom Adam Speck, the couple received excellent customer service during the planning for their wedding. He said, “Other than marrying the love of my life, I feel that everyone we worked with was sincerely invested in making the day special for us. It wasn’t just a business transaction; it was invested customer service.”
Ministry of Tourism officials are pleased to see the increase in destination weddings for Grand Bahama and will continue to promote the streamlined no-hassle Bahamian legal regulations for getting married in our islands. The law states that the couple must reside in The Bahamas for 24 hours prior to the date of the application and present all official documents.
