Get ready to experience the aquatic magic of the Island’s capital. This weekend, February 26th- March 1st, Guy Harvey Outpost will excite the grounds of picturesque Old Bahama Bay Resort and Yacht Harbor, a proud member of the Guy Harvey Outpost Expedition portfolio, for a fun filled time of parties and events in celebration of Wahoo season. With twenty-five registered boat entries, and over $30,000 in cash and prizes, the two day Wahoo Bonfire Festival and Tournament will be this weekend’s hot spot.
The action will consist of fast paced, high flying kiteboarding demonstrations and the aerial theatrics of the Island Extreme Ventures skydiving team, climaxing with the Guy Harvey Outpost signature Burning Wahoo Sculpture by artist Bobby Little.
The Ministry of Tourism’s, Grand Bahama Island Sports Tourism unit has been instrumental in the organization and marketing of this grand event. Excited about the plans for this weekend, Senior Manager for Sports Tourism, Rosalyn Pinder anticipates that it will be an “awesome and unforgettable experience, fit for the entire family.” The weekend will not only feature sports fishing, but it will incorporate a fusion of friendly competition, creativity and authentic culture, putting on display the talented residents of West End.
Forty students of the West End All Age School, have been invited to display their creative talents in a poster and t-shirt design competition. The more seasoned members of the community, the local culinary gurus, will be put to the test in the battle for the ultimate conch salad.
The weekend of events will officially kick off tomorrow, Thursday, February 26th, with a Captains meeting; Friday will be dedicated to a full day of fishing, with the local cultural competitions and the Wahoo Burning taking place that evening; Saturday will feature the official Awards Ceremony, complete with a live band, and a junkanoo rush out.
