Private Pilots Celebrate Two Decades of Aviation Partnership with The Bahamas During 20th Annual Long Island Fly-In
NASSAU, Bahamas (9 Dec. 2025) – The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA), in collaboration with Caribbean Flying Adventures, recently hosted the 20th Annual Long Island Fly-In, welcoming nearly 40 private aircraft and close to 100 participants. The event showcased the strength of The Bahamas’ aviation sector and the country’s ability to host high-profile, well-organised events that benefit local communities.
For two decades, the Long Island Fly-In has been a flagship initiative for BMOTIA, drawing both new and returning pilots who make the islands a regular part of their flight plans. Participants arrived via Stella Maris Airport before participating in briefings, inter-island flights, and hands-on activities that showcased the skills, coordination, and hospitality behind these aviation events.
“For 20 years, the Long Island Fly-In has been a strategic asset for The Bahamas,” said The Honourable I. Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation. “It drives real business to our islands, strengthens our partnerships with the private aviation sector, and positions The Bahamas as the most reliable and accessible general aviation destination in the region. These pilots don’t just visit—many of them return, invest, and contribute meaningfully to the economies of our Family Islands.”
“Long Island’s fly-in underscores the longstanding relationship between The Bahamas and the private aviation community,” said Latia Duncombe, Director General. “For two decades, this event has strengthened engagement with our islands and highlighted the important role general aviation plays in our tourism landscape. As interest continues to grow, we remain focused on advancing general aviation across our islands and ensuring The Bahamas continues to stand out as a destination of choice for private pilots.”
Caribbean Flying Adventures, led by Private Captain Jim Parker, Senior Bahamas Flying Ambassador, has been central to the fly-in’s success. Through his network, hundreds of pilots have been introduced to the ease, safety, and convenience of flying to The Bahamas, helping position the country as a leading general aviation destination.
The Long Island Fly-In followed a season that also included the 4th Annual Terry Spurlock Halloween Fly-In in Abaco, which welcomed 15 private aircraft. Since its inception, that event has hosted nearly 200 participants, further reinforcing The Bahamas’ appeal to the private aviation community.
With participation from across North America remaining strong, BMOTIA continues to expand opportunities within the private aviation sector, supporting the islands and enhancing the experience for pilots. The Ministry remains committed to providing seamless arrivals, strengthening partnerships, and promoting The Bahamas as the premier destination for general aviation.
