The Bahamas Makes Its Mark: Expanded Airlift and Global Tourism Push
New Flights, Cultural Showcases, and Multi-Island Experiences Put The Bahamas in the Global Spotlight
NASSAU, Bahamas (9 Dec. 2025) – The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (BMOTIA) has concluded a series of high-profile international missions designed to showcase the country’s expanding tourism offerings, strengthen trade relationships, and highlight new airlift opportunities. From the U.S. Midwest to London, the Ministry brought the warmth, culture, and vibrancy of The Bahamas directly to travel advisors, media, and industry partners, reinforcing the destination’s message that The Bahamas is not just one island—it’s a lifetime of them.
In late October, BMOTIA hosted Signature Sales and Marketing events in Detroit and Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, engaging more than 450 travel advisors, meeting planners, and media representatives. These events highlighted new developments positioning The Bahamas as a year-round destination, including expanded Delta Airlines service: daily nonstop flights from Detroit to Nassau and new weekly nonstop flights from Minneapolis–Saint Paul to Nassau starting December 20, 2025, through April 2026.
“The Bahamas continues to strengthen strategic partnerships and airlift capacity across the U.S. Midwest, making our islands more accessible than ever,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, the Hon. I. Chester Cooper. “These enhancements not only drive visitor arrivals but also support multi-island travel, repeat visitation, and expanded trade and tourism opportunities.”
Director General Latia Duncombe emphasised the importance of cultivating lasting relationships with Midwest partners. “These missions gave us the opportunity to share the depth of who we are as a people and a destination. From Junkanoo to our culinary traditions, partners experienced the culture and creativity that define each of our islands. The response across the Midwest and London showed how strongly our 16-island story connects with travelers who are seeking culture, connection, and a lifetime of islands to explore.”
Shortly after, BMOTIA extended its global reach to the London market during World Travel Market, presenting a Bahamas Mission that immersed over 160 guests—including top European trade partners and media—in authentic Bahamian culture. Attendees experienced Junkanoo performances, a cowbell Kaliking contest, and Bahamian-inspired dining and cocktails prepared by award-winning mixologist Marv Cunningham.
“European travelers are rediscovering The Bahamas not just for our beaches, but for the stories, people, and culture that make each of our islands unique,” said Director General Duncombe. “It’s a collection of experiences to be explored over a lifetime, whether through gastronomy, festivals, sustainable tourism, or unforgettable island adventures.”
The London mission also reinforced growing connectivity, announcing expanded Canadian airlift for winter 2025–2026, with 45 weekly flights linking Canadian cities to The Bahamas, providing European travelers with convenient access through connecting flights. Data from 2024 and early 2025 shows strong engagement from key markets, including the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Germany, underscoring the destination’s increasing appeal.
Led by BMOTIA’s national trade and marketing teams, these missions celebrated The Bahamas’ vibrant culture while strengthening relationships with global partners, illustrating how the country continues to evolve as a world-class, year-round destination. Through initiatives like these, travelers are reminded that The Bahamas is far more than a single getaway—it’s a lifetime of experiences, each island offering something new to discover.
