San Salvador Patrice "Mary" Williams Straw

Ms. Williams specializes in straw creations and makes her living creating and personalizing her own unique style of woven baskets, handbags, dolls, and table placemats, to name a few. Her grandmother taught her how to harvest the palm and sisal plants and also the art of weaving and sewing straw.

Patrice was born and raised in San Salvador and has lived here all her life. Known to everyone as "Mary," she has made a name for herself with visitors from around the world, who love her quirky sense of humor. Her nickname came from the fact that if you are a woman, she calls you "Mary;" the men she calls "Frank." Her welcoming phrase is, "How are you Mary, looking for anything special today? Frank, looks like you could use a T-shirt!" This begins the conversation and people are not offended at all. You can only smile when she does it, and it is what makes her likable to everyone she meets.
