Front of Wyannie Malone Historical Museum, Hope Town, Elbow Cay, The Abacos

With a history dating as far back as the 1780s, a few residents of Hope Town thought it was important to establish a museum to preserve the past and educate the young about their origins. The entire community worked on the project and in March 1978, the museum was official opened and named after the town's founder, Wyannie Malone, who settled here from South Carolina. Presently on display are manuscripts, photographs, artifacts, pottery and china from shipwrecks, plus household antiques.

The museum plays a significant role in the community, sponsoring Heritage Day every year during the month of March, which reenacts events of the past through skits, songs and games.
