Holiday Dining Made Easy!
Part 1

Nassau

It’s almost officially the start of the holiday season! While The Bahamas never really gets “wintry”, there will soon be an ever so slight chill in the air, rake & scrape holiday carols will start playing on local radio stations, and Christmas decorations will soon adorn islands around the country.

FUN FACT: The coldest recorded temperature in The Bahamas was about 40 degrees, and this occurred in the 1970s.

Thanksgiving is not an official Bahamian holiday. But, many chefs, restaurants and at-home cooks throughout the country have embraced the sentiment of the day, by showing gratitude, hosting community outreach efforts, and indulging in the culinary elements associated with the day of thanks. A large number of restaurants feature Thanksgiving themed menus, but since it is not a national holiday, businesses and shops are open for normal business hours.

Christmas, on the other hand, is a very important holiday throughout the entire Bahamas. Much like the rest of the world, Bahamians celebrate with family and loved ones, around a large feast. Most businesses and stores are also closed on December 25th and December 26th (Boxing Day) in recognition of the holiday.

A typical Bahamian Christmas dinner often includes a family style spread of oven roasted turkey, brown sugar and mustard glazed ham, a wide range of fresh caught seafood, peas and rice, baked macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, stuffing, and crab salad, just to name a few popular menu selections.

If you are looking for the perfect holiday feast option, below are just a few examples of where to look.
