Tourism minister pleased with plans
Downtown Nassau will get a facelift next year with the multi-million dollar construction of The Pointe on Bay Street. The new development will jumpstart the Ministry of Tourism and Aviation’s overall plan to revitalize Bay Street, according to Minister of Tourism and Aviation Dionisio D’Aguilar.
“This is very exciting. It starts the revitalization of Bay Street. It’s a modern project that is very different from the colonial feeling of Bay Street and it is going to add something even more exciting for our visitors to experience when they get off the cruise ships,” he said.
Minister D’Aguilar joined Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis and other cabinet ministers to tour the multi-million dollar facility on Tuesday.
The project, pegged at $250 million is expected to begin a phased opening in mid-2019 and will feature a 150-room Margaritaville Beach Resort and 150 luxury oceanfront residences, of which 100 will be branded One Particular Harbour at The Pointe.
Other amenities include a marina, water park, spa, entertainment centre, Margaritaville food and beverage concepts, retail shops, a children's club and more.
“What I find really wonderful about this is the water park that will provide something different for all visitors to do,” the Tourism and Aviation minister added.
Minister D’Aguilar said the three aspects of a successful down town are adequate parking, a residential component, food and beverage and retail options, and he is pleased that The Pointe is creating them all.
“We need all of those components to bring about the revitalization of Bay Street. We have millions of visitors coming to our country. Now, we have to create experiences that will get them to spend money here.”
The Ministry of Tourism and Aviation and the Downtown Nassau Partnership (DNP) are working together to finalize plans for the revitalization and beautification of Bay Street in its entirety.
