Ecotourism On Andros
Ecotourism On Andros
Ecotourism is so important here that each year the community dedicates the entire month of October to pay homage to the natural environment. Andros is the ecotourism destination of The Bahamas because of its large pristine, terrestrial and marine ecosystems. The western side of Andros is a nursery for countless marine and wildlife species. It’s also the largest protected park system in the country. You can explore the Blue Hole National Park, which has the largest concentration of these unique geological formations than any other place in the world. Explore the third largest barrier reef in the world, or get lost in the hundreds of miles of winding creeks or wetlands. Andros is also home to the largest native terrestrial vertebrate in The Islands Of The Bahamas, an eye-catching iguana with unusual nesting habits. It is the only iguana in the world that deposits its eggs in termite mounds, and then sits there to guard the nest. Guided tours will help you find these and other rare and memorable sights, like the more than 120 resident and migratory bird species, 20 varieties of wild orchids and land crabs peeking from limestone crevasses.
