Latitudes Offers Stunning Views with a Side of East Asian Flair….Pizza & Pastas, Too

Latitudes View

New Providence has an unexpectedly rich selection of East Asian restaurants. Many serve up an expansive range of Japanese and Chinese regional options, sprinkled with flavors and dishes popular in Korea and Thailand. But, sushi has a particularly diverse presence on the island.

Diners can choose from resort options like Nobu (Atlantis), Katsuya (Baha Mar) and Shima (Island House), or a number of stand alone restaurants, including Seafront Sushi, Ichiban, Social House, Sakura Sushi, and Sushi Rokkan. A number of Bahamian sushi chefs often merge regional flavors, ingredients and cooking methods to create unique fusion dishes, but one sushi restaurant offers up a menu that extends far beyond the Asian continent.

Latitudes is located in Eastern New Providence, and includes a pastry shop, which carries a selection of English chocolates and European inspired deserts, a teppanyaki grill, and unobstructed views of the Nassau Harbour. In addition to the restaurant’s unique layout, its menu is also varied, and includes pizzas, pastas, salads, rice bowls, grilled meats and ceviche, alongside ramen, sashimi, nigiri and, of course, sushi.

For many, enjoying a Bolognese alongside a spicy tuna roll may be unheard of, but with a sushi menu that is filled with ingredients like fresh mango, fried plantains and tamarind sauce, it is clear that Latitudes does not follow traditional culinary rules.

With so many options, making a final decision may seem daunting. Below are a few suggestions to get you started….

Bento Box

Tuna Avocado Salad – This salad is perfect for an appetizer and is served with a beautiful, gently seared, tuna rose, on top of fresh greens, creamy avocado, watermelon radish and sweet sesame vinaigrette.

Grilled Octopus

Grilled Octopus Small Plate – Two flavorful, tender and delicious tentacles are included in each order.

Poke Bowl

Poke Bowl – Available with Tuna or Salmon, the poke bowls at Latitudes are topped with flavor packed pickled vegetables, fresh avocado, sweet seaweed salad, marinated mushrooms, quinoa, and tobiko.

Fire Roll

Fire Roll – This roll is filled with shrimp tempura, tuna, salmon, cucumber, spicy mayo, sesame oil and topped with mild(ish) pepper rings, and is a lovely balance of flavors and textures.

Plantain Roll

Pro-Tips: Latitudes’ teppanyaki grill is only open in the evening. Seating fills up quickly, so be sure to make a reservation.

If you are looking for a non-alcoholic treat, order a virgin fruit mojito. Their blackberry mojito mocktail is amazing, but not listed on their cocktail menu.

Don’t forget dessert. The Latitude’s dessert menu rotates often, but they offer an array of delicious and beautifully decorated options. You can also grab an English chocolate on the way out. Many Bahamian supermarkets carry popular English brands, but Latitudes specializes in hard-to-find favorites like Flake, Chomp, Twirl and many more.
