What an adventure we had in the Bahamas! We participated in the People to People program and wanted to go off the beaten "touristy" path. When we arrived in Nassau, we walked to the ministry of tourism to meet our government provided tour guide, Oris. Oris greeted us like we were old family friends! He took us around the usual tourist spots and then took us to the part of the island that most tourists neglect to see. Oris was very hospitable and even took us to his home so that we could see the decor and architecture of a Bahamian home. After hanging out with our new friend Oris, we had about 2.5 hours before we needed to get back on the boat. We walked all around town and checked out the shops and restaurants. We never had a moment where we felt unsafe or harassed. The only downfall was knowing that we would soon have to get on the boat and leave.
